The Tenth Annual Scribe Awards

The International Association of Media Tie-In Writers is pleased to announce the Scribe Award Nominees for 2016.

Acknowledging excellence in this very competitive field, the IAMTW’s Scribe Awards honor licensed works that tie in with other media such as television, movies, gaming, or comic books. Tie-in works run the gamut from westerns to mysteries to procedurals, from science fiction to fantasy to horror, from action and adventure to superheroes. HALO, Elementary, 24, Star Trek, Mike Hammer, Star Wars, Shadowrun, Doctor Who: these represent just a few.

The Scribe Award winners will be announced at ComicCon San Diego in July. The exact day, time and location of the Scribes Panel including the award ceremony will be announced shortly.

Ghosts of Ascalon, the Guild Wars book I wrote with Jeff Grubb, just picked up a nomination for the Scribe Award for Best Speculative Original. The International Media Tie-In Writers (IAMTW) gives out the Scribe Awards at Comic-Con every year to the best in tie-in novels of the past year. In the past, the judges have nominated my Mutant Chronicles and Knights of the Silver Dragon: Prophecy of the Dragons novels, and Mutant Chronicles won the Best Game-Related Adapted novel award in 2009.

This time around, Ghosts of Ascalon is up against some stiff competition in its category from David Mack, Sean Williams, Keith R. A. DeCandido, and Nathan Long. I don’t know what the book’s chances of winning are, but I’m proud to be in the company of such great authors. It really is an honor just to have the book nominated.

Be sure to check out the IAMTW blog for a full list of the nominations in each category, plus the naming of Peter David as this year’s grandmaster. Congratulations to Peter and all the rest of the nominees!

As you might recall, my novelization of the Mutant Chronicles film was nominated for Speculative Fiction, Best Novel, Adapted. It lost out to Bob Greenberger‘s excellent Hellboy II novelization, but I got to sit between Bob and Jim Rollins on the panel. They both won awards, and basking in their reflected glow took the sting right out of the loss.

It really was an honor to sit on stage with all the nominees who could make it to Comic-Con, many of whom I met there in person for the first time. Keith R. A. DeCandido gave a clever Grandmaster acceptance speech, and Lee Goldberg did yeoman’s work leading the post-ceremony panel. We had lots of different people on the panel, and it’s not easy to come up with enough great questions for everyone to chip in on, but he handled it well.

The photo here comes from Lee’s Flickr set of the event. Check out the rest of the pictures there, and see below for the full awards results.

The IAMTW just announced the nominees for its 2009 Scribe Awards, which are for the best tie-novels of the year.
See below for the full list nominees, many of which were written by good friends of mine (including fellow Alliterate member Steve Sullivan), and all of which are by excellent and talented writers. I feel blessed to be in such fantastic company, and this should make Comic-Con and Gen Con that much more fun.2009 Scribe Award Nominees Announced

The highest honor the IAMTW can bestow is the Grandmaster Award, which recognizes a writer for his or her extensive and exceptional work in the tie-in field. His work includes many Star Trek novels, as well as original books in the CSI: NY and Supernatural tie-in series, to name just a few.

The IAMTW also awards two Special Gaming Scribes, honoring excellence in game-related tie-ins. Those awards are given at Gen Con in Indianapolis August 13-16, 2009. (Specific date and time of the ceremony to be announced.) The nominees are:
