The latest adventure for the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game — Spider-Man: Midtown Mayhem — hits game stores today and comic stores tomorrow. It’s a 64-page comic-book-sized adventure that I wrote, with my son Marty doing his regular fantastic job with the character profiles. I also get a “based on story” credit for the 8-page comic up front that was actually written by longtime Miles Morales scribe Cody Ziglar, with art by the amazing Ruarí Coleman, colors by Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, and letters by Travis Lanham, all edited by lead Spider-Man editor (and great role-playing gamer) Nick Lowe!
Paco Medina and Jesus Aburtov did a wonderful job with that stunning cover, and Brian Patterson hammered out some incredibly cool and useful maps. Ray Vallese’s sharp eyes kept us on track, and Simeon Cogswell’s delightful graphic design tied it all together.
This is the last item for the game with C.B. Cebulski as the editor-in-chief, as he’s moving out to Japan to head up the new Marvel manga line. making way for Steve Wacker to take over. Many thanks to C.B. for all his support over the years, and I’m looking forward to more things ahead with Steve!
It’s also the last book to go out under the auspices of assistant producer Amir Osman, who just took a job overseeing tabletop games at Humble Bundle. While I’m sorry to see such a great friend and teammate go, I’m delighted that he found such a great new gig, and I look forward to him continuing to be a part of tabletop games for many years to come.
So, thanks to all of those fine folks, but also to the rest of the Marvel team. That includes Sven Larsen, Jeff Youngquist, and Tim Dillon, but most especially our editor Brian Overton and our producer and project lead C.J. Cervantes. You couldn’t ask for a better super-group to work on super-hero games with.
As for the book, it’s a wild adventure that takes the heroes into the depths of Manhattan to figure out who’s messing with the Hulk and why. As a huge Spider-Man since I started to read, it was a childhood dream to write this — but, man, I could say that about every book in this entire line. Still, getting to toss both Spider-Men, both Daredevils, and the Punisher into an adventure? That’s the sweet spot for sure.
Go grab it, read it, and — most of all — have fun with it!
