The Game Master’s Book of Magic & Mayhem for Kids

In all of yesterday’s hubbub over the Kickstarter for The Cats of New Orleans — which funded in under six hours, thanks! — I forgot to mention that yesterday was also the release date for The Game Master’s Book of Magic & Mayhem for Kids.

This is the latest in the Game Master’s Book series from Topix Media. A few years back, my sons Marty and Nick joined me in writing an adventure for an earlier book in the series, The Game Master’s Book of Astonishing Random Tables. We had a great time with that, so when they asked us for another, we said YES.

This time around, my son Pat joined Marty and me for the fun. At the time, Pat was getting a degree in game design from the University of Wisconsin—Whitewater, and he had an assignment that involved writing a short Dungeons & Dragons adventure. He cleared it with his teachers that he would write the first draft for his class and then Marty and I would take over on finishing it off for publication.

That’s the adventure that appears in The Game Master’s Book of Magic & Mayhem for Kids, entitled “Baby Jones’s Locker.” It’s an all-ages one-shot adventure in which the heroes work to save an infant who’s been kidnapped by ghost pirates. The three of us had a ball designing and writing it, and we hope that you enjoy it too!
