Late Saturday/early Sunday, the folks at Reactor 88 Studios launched a new website for Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World: Revolution.* This includes the proof-of-concept trailer that debuted at Gen Con 2009 and also was shown at Geek.Kon this past weekend. If you missed those events, this is your first chance to see it in all its explodey glory, so be sure to check it out!

[*I don't like having my name up front like that, but it's the easiest way to clarify that this has nothing to do with anything written by Aldous Huxley. I blame Shakespeare and his ability to create quotable lines.]

This summer, AEG and DriveThruRPG released my Brave New World Roleplaying Game line in PDF format. However, some fans of the original in-print edition asked if they could get just the character sheet as a PDF, as photocopying it from the middle of the hardcover rulebook isn’t all that easy. That’s an easy enough request, so here it is! Print to your ink or toner cartridge’s content.

During Gen Con or thereabouts, to help celebrate the debut of the Brave New World: Revolutions film proof of concept, AEG and DriveThruRPG released the entire catalog of books from my Brave New World Roleplaying Game as PDFs. Though the game has been long out of print, you can now download all nine books (everything but the GM’s screen) instantly, all at substantial discounts off their original printed price. The core rulebook, for instance, is only $18.

If you’ve ever been interested in the game or the background behind the film, here’s your chance to get it without having to scour eBay for printed books. It’s been 10 years since the game first saw print. It’s great to have it back in circulation again.

I’m prepping for Gen Con, which starts on Thursday, although I’ll be there on Wednesday for the Diana Jones Award party. I have a busy schedule lined up for myself, which includes my Industry Insider Guest of Honor panels, plus some events to promote the release of the Brave New World: Revolution proof-of-concept video.

The big event, of course, is the debut of that video, along with a concert by Makeshift Prodigy. This happens Friday at 4 PM in the Westin’s Grand Ballrooms 2 & 3. For a preview of this, be sure to check out the new trailer.

Also, Reactor 88 Studios and Makeshift Prodigy are throwing an afterparty to celebrate the release of the Brave New World: Revolution proof-of-concept. We’ll be at the Subterra Lounge (250 S. Meridian), blowing off steam and listening to the sounds of DJ Marcelo. This is a reservation-only event. Be sure to contact rsvp to join us.

The event starts at 4 PM in the Grand Ballroom II & III in the Westin. It’s free, although I recommend you get a ticket beforehand to guarantee entry. Makeshift Prodigy is one of Chicago’s hottest new bands, and they rock. Hit their website and check out their music (under the “Media” tab), especially the track “Revolution,” which figures large in the show.

At 2 PM on August 15, we’ll return to the scene of the crime for Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World: Revolution Feature Film Q & A: A seminar with the Reactor 88 Studios folks. I’ll be there, along with many members of the cast and crew, to discuss the film and how it’s coming along. (FLM0904589)

My pal Phil Lacefield is clearing out his closets, and he’s put up a four-book set of Brave New World roleplaying game titles up on eBay. At his kind request, I’ll be happy to autograph them for the lucky winner.

The set includes the core Brave New World rulebook, Ravaged Planet, Defiants, and Glory Days. That’s four of the best books of the whole series. If you’re at all looking to pick these up, be sure to check out the auction. If you win, I’ll deface the books with my pen in the fashion you request.

Vincent Demons, a big fan of Brave New World, is the director of publication of Foolstrip, the site that publishes Mademoiselle Blok, among a number of other free-to-read comics. He suggested that writer and artist Eva C. include the tip of the hat to the game.

Hey, look what showed up in my mailbox today? Two teaser images from the Brave New World proof-of-concept short that Reactor 88 Studios shot last summer. The first one is of Natalie Victoria playing Lisa, the girl from the opening few pages of the Brave New World Roleplaying Game.

The second is of Chuck Wagner playing Patriot, the leader of the Defiants. When I saw Chuck on location last year, it was like Patriot had stepped off the page to shake my hand. I can’t wait to see more of this.

Reactor 88 Studios has set up an IMDB entry for the Brave New World film. This includes an entry for me. Trivial, I know, but cool.

The folks at the Games Workshop Chicago Battle Bunker showed me a great time this past Saturday. I signed a few dozen books, chatted with lots of Blood Bowl players, and peeked over a few shoulders to see some great teams, pitches, and matches. I also talked again with tournament organizer Tom Anders, who edited the latest version of the Blood Bowl Living Rulebook, and he kindly completed my set of exclusive (and very cool) Chaos Cup figures.

Darren Orange and Zachary “Charge” Laoutides from Reactor 88 Studios showed up to chat about the Brave New World movie too, and Chuck “Patriot” Wagner stopped by with a couple of lovely ladies to invite us to his birthday party. Sadly, I had to pass on that, but I did grab dinner with Darren and store manager Allen Jorjorian, who invited me out to say thanks for making the trip.

Allen has one of those great life stories that reminds me why I love gaming. Formerly a successful stockbroker, he put that behind him after the birth of his son and now works his dream job as a manager of a Games Workshop store. I love seeing people being true to themselves and doing what they love.
