If you’ve got your ear hard against the pounding beat of the internet, you’ve probably already know how Mentos and Diet Coke can react explosively. You may even have seen the miniature version of the Bellagio fountains a couple of guys with way too much time–and Mentos and Diet Coke–set up. But you may not appreciate how well this fits …
Sample Blackstaff
Fellow Alliterate Steven Schend‘s Forgotten Realms novel Blackstaff is due to hit shelves in July. You can now read the first chapter online for free.
Would You Dance?
At the Alliterates meeting on Monday night, Lester Smith gave me a copy of his first printed book of poems: Would You Dance? It’s not available to the public yet, but should be soon, via Popcorn Press. This is great stuff, Lester at his best. To be more erudite about it, here’s the blurb I gave him for the back …
Alliterates Assembled!
I had a great time at the Alliterates‘ monthly meeting last night. Doug Niles brought a bar puzzle that took us forever to figure out, and we only managed it all because Steve Sullivan refused to give up. (Okay, Steve managed it himself long after the rest of us had let it go.) We also had a guest, Steven Schend, …
Holi-Dragons
As fellow Alliterate writer Jeff Grubb notes, he and Jim Ward and Ed Greenwood have a new book out, just in time for the holidays: We Three Dragons. This anthology features three novellas about dragons and Christmas. I have yet to read it myself, but it’s now on my Christmas list.
A Very Alliterative Booklist
The Alliterates (of which I’m a proud member) has posted a list of recommended works of science-fiction and fantasy. If you’re looking for something as a holiday gift or just to read, this is a fine place to start.
Poetic Alliterates
Last night at the Alliterates meeting, we tried something new. We each brought a favorite poem to read and chat about. I choose two. I love “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, but picking it is like saying the Beatles are your favorite band. It’s just too easy. So, I also brought along a short poem by John Keats …
New Alliterates Site
The new website is up for the Alliterates, the group of friends and published writers to which I proudly belong. Lester Smith, Rob King, and Steve Sullivan did a bang-up job with the thing, so be sure to stop by and check it out. The “history of the Alliterates” section is drop-dead hilarious. The front page of the site offers …
Alliterative Blogging
The Alliterates website has been down for a couple weeks for domain-related woes, but it should be restored soon. In the meantime, the Alliterates have started a group blog you can find right here. Click over to learn all about the ongoings of our writers’ club.
Back from Origins
I had a great time at Origins. All of my seminars went well. The attendees asked sharp questions, and my fellow panelists were a joy to work with. I spent a lot of time in the Green Ronin booth, showing people how to play Dracula’s Revenge, the new board game I developed for Human Head Studios. At the Origins Awards …
