In reply to Matt Forbeck. I should have been clearer. I don't think he's farcical at all. But for someone unfamiliar with the character history he does look like a Dudley Do Right.

I wouldn’t think of Cap as farcical as much as deliberately patriotic. The fact that two Jewish men created him had a lot to do with his first foe as well. He actually appeared in print nearly a year before the US became involved in WWII.

The films have been fantastic, and I’m eager to see Civil War too. I hope you enjoy the book when it comes out. I had a fantastic time working on it.

Sweet! Congrats on the book. I will probably pick that one up.

I was on the rpg.net discussion board years ago, and someone who didn’t grow up overseas mentioned offhand that Captain America was an intentionally farcical character. That hadn’t even occurred to me until he said it, and then I did my homework and saw the character was created during World War 2 and his first arch enemy was Hitler. That puts the character into perspective.

I am generally pleased with what they’ve done with the character in the recent string of movies, and I have to admit that motivates my interest in the book.
