Thanks, Wayne! I'd love to hear if you get a response.

As I said, though, I don't expect that this use is accidental. Goldfarb will probably do the same thing again if he thinks it will help his candidate. Ironically (again), the McCain camp may have also unwittingly insulted a large group of its target voters who happen to play games, so it could harm as much as help. As you point out, a stunning number of people in the US military—historically a dependably conservative voting block—play games, and I don't think they'll appreciate Goldfarb's insinuations.

Matt,

I've sent Mr Goldfarb a flaming Email which I don't expect to get responded to chastising him for targeting D&D gamers as being un-american, I reminded him that like many others we have plenty of other gamers that are soldiers, airmen and sailors that play games on a regular basis and rank up there with McCain's service. I took offense as a gamer, veteran, and conservative at his comments. I really hate it when politicians and others start pointing fingers at people and labeling them as un-american. Many of my friends of liberal, and many are conservative, and I would not label any, for whatever they do as being unpatriotic. I just wonder how many in McCain's camp actually play, and if any of them took Offense to this jab.

Goldfarb's first apology was obviously another jab since he didn't learn anything from the first attack.

Perhaps that's why they chose D&D, Jeff. It's perfect. You get to slam effete intellectuals and Satanists at the same time.

The ironic part is that the people who'd respond to this are already firmly in the RNC's pocket. They'd likely never vote for Obama. However, the McCain camp needs to motivate them to get out and vote rather than stay home on Election Day. For that, they need to show that "the Maverick" is actually one of them, despite his statements against them in the past.

Matt,

I think it is more Anti-Intellectualism than anything else. If nothing else, the Republican party wants us to be afraid of smart people. The media, science, anyone with a plan that goes beyond stuffing your own pockets with other people's money, all of these groups are to be mocked for being obviously smart. Anti-D&D is an attack on the nerds, a mocking of anyone who dares to look behind the approved portrait of St. McCain, who suffered your sins.
