Less “epic” than a lot of the current children’s fantasy fare, but a great deal more “human” in its central conflicts. It’s also deeply rooted in the historical fairy tale, rather than more recent tales, and it is a good example about how the “wellspring” of fantasy can nurture healthy flowers.
