Losing the Wonder Spot is just one more tragedy for Wisconsin Dells. The charm and beauty is being replaced with mega waterparks for the sake of money. It's so heartbreaking. Why are the people of the Wisconsin Dells allowing this to happen?

To all that have been there, tell and retell your experience to everyone. Why, you ask? Because 'Real America' is becoming a folk tale one day, just like the stories your grandma and grandpa tell. My kids now, look at me like, "yeah right". I'm only 36 years old. My question (one of), a road? Where and who has to get to point A to point B, that is soooo important that they can't make a turn here or there. Is nothing sacride anymore? I truely fear the future of America. Man made 'wonders of the world' are nice to look at, but a natural 'wonder of the world'............Is the almighty dollar more important? (By the way, what can you buy for a dollar now days?)

As the Roadside America site says, "when was the last time you enjoyed a vacation accompanied by a skeptic?"

It's one thing to be a skeptic, it's quite another to be a curmudgeony skeptic.

I am a big lover of Roadside weirdness. One of my favorite places to visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO-mGPHyB3c is a mall now.

I remeber going there as a child and teenager (I'm now 50) and how in awe it left me? Also it left me thinking about how or what made things behave differently there. I took my children there when they were too young to really think about it (nor remember it), but they certainlly enjoyed it while we were there. Many years later, after our annual fall hike in nearby Devil's Head park, we made a short detour through the Dells. When I noticed that we had just driven past the "Wonder Spot" I made him turn around so my now teenage kids could go see it. They appeared to be closed for the season. Both of my kids were disappointed that we couldn't go in, my son even wanted to make a special trip there during "On Season," so he could see it. I wish we had now.

Even if it is a "hoax," it has stuck in my mind all of these years. It is one of those places that you bring your kids to see. It was an odd little family attraction that somehow seemed to find it's way into many peoples memories. I will miss it.
