I too feel for Shaw’s grandmother, it makes me wonder why an agricultural heavy state like Wisconsin didn’t (and doesn’t) have homesteading laws to protect property owners.

I live in California now, and though I think the Kelo decision was a setback for many of us who want stronger protections against eminent domain, I voted against our slum lord encouraging prop 90. As it currently stands, the best protection against eminent domain is knowledge of what you have, what its worth, and whether you really need it or can live somewhere else. Then again, I fully understand how difficult a mental shift it is (and maybe ought be completely unneccesary) to think of your home like a stock or other purely financial property rather than a place to live with memories and value beyond money.

Sorry to hear that, William. I think it’s interesting that you hold Doyle and the Democrats responsible when the Republicans have been in a solid majority in both the house and assembly here in Wisconsin, throughout Doyle’s entire tenure—and had to approve the budgets. Property taxes are high here, but that’s one of the results of the states being forced to pay for unfunded mandates handed down by the federal government over the past six years.

Either way, I do feel for your mother. That’s an awful problem.

I forgot to mention that because she owns a home, she is consider rich by the Democrats. Sad stuff. She makes a whopping $16k a year.

Doyle is forcing my low income mother to sell her house. She paid it off working at just above minimum wage her whole life, but now she can’t afford the personal property taxes. So we rallied the vote for Republicans.
