I think there's an element of that, to be sure. Mark Simmons set up the Games Expo, and he used to be the executive director of GAMA. He knows more about running such a show than anyone.

However, Mark's billed his show as substantially different than GTS, putting it into what he feels is a stronger position. Still, the fact was that if GTS hadn't moved most of us in the industry would have had to make a hard choice between attending one show or the other. Few of us can spare the time to spend two weeks in a row in Vegas, love it or not.

Moving GTS 2007 (the dates for which hadn't been set yet) seems like a wise move. It may have happened less because of Games Expo, though, and more due to the dates free at Bally's. I wasn't in on the decision, so I can't tell.

Either way, this works out better for everyone. Those who could only do one show still will, but the space between them makes it easier for the rest of us to try to do both if we can.

Do you see the Games Expo as an attempt to displace GAMA, or do you think that there is room for a "Manufacturers" and a "Retailer" show?
