Human Head

My former compatriots at Human Head are getting closer to the release of Prey, their kicking first-person shooter for the Xbox 360. To highlight this, there’s now an official website for Prey. Also, 3DRealms, the company that originated the game and provided much of its funding, is hosting a weekly development update on its own site. The first update, from my friend Chris Rhinehart, the game’s project lead, is up now.

Human Head

The cat’s officially out of the bag, so now I can finally talk about Human Head Studios‘ top-secret video game: Prey. For those of you who have been playing PC games forever, you might remember that 3DRealms, the makers of Duke Nukem, promised to come out with one particular game before Duke Nukem Forever. That game was Prey.

Human Head has been working on the game under 3DRealms wing for years, and it’s finally coming to light. Gamespot.com has a great interview about Prey on their site, with lots more details, if you’re curious.

When I worked in the Human Head offices, I had the privilege of watching Prey develop and to playtest a few of the levels. This game is amazing. If you’re a first-person shooter or science fiction fan (or, better yet, both), you’re going to want this bad. It uses the Doom 3 engine, so it’s gorgeous, but the gameplay is fantastic too. Time to think about upgrading systems.

Human Head

As of October 1, I left Human Head Studios and returned once again to being a full-time freelancer. I had a great time working with the fine folks at Human Head. While I’ll miss them, I won’t miss the hour-long commute to Madison at all. My own office is less than five minutes away in a raging snowstorm.

I have lots of work lined up already. My first novel (Secret of the Spiritkeeper from Wizards of the Coast) came out in August, and I have six others already contracted, with more on the horizon. I’m also working on some collectible card game and roleplaying game material in between the books. Still, the freelancer’s lot is to always be looking past the horizon for bigger and better gigs. If you know of any you think would fit well, don’t be shy about letting me know.

For some more details, I’ll let the great guys at ICv2.com tell you all about it. Just click here for their article on my departure and my replacement at Human Head.

Human Head

Human Head Studios is proud to present three special events at this year’s Gen Con. This includes an ongoing series of demonstrations of Dracula’s Revenge™, a fast-playing, horror-themed, tabletop game of tactical combat. To play in one of the demos, players must simply stop by the Green Ronin Publishing booth. Each player’s name will be entered into a drawing, and at 3:30 PM each day, Human Head Studios will draw a name from that day’s players and reward the winner with a brand-new PC graphics card courtesy of ATI. There is no cost to enter, but players must be present to win.

You can now vote in the ENnie Awards. Just click here. The voting is open to the public, and it uses a system designed to level out problems with voters unfamiliar with all of the nominees. So go vote now!

While I won’t tell you what you have to vote for, I should mention that The Redhurst Academy of Magic, which I produced for Human Head Studios has been nominated for three ENnies. The recognition came for Best Cartography, Best Graphic Design, and Best Campaign Setting. Vote your conscience, of course, but please do vote.

The Redhurst Academy of Magic, which I produced for Human Head Studios has been nominated for three ENnies, the roleplaying game awards given out via EN World. The recognition came for Best Cartography, Best Graphic Design, and Best Campaign Setting. It’s always flattering to see that others enjoy your work, and I’m looking forward even more to the awards ceremony at Gen Con on August 20.

The voting in the final round is open to the public. Once that’s announced, I’ll be sure to let you know when and where you can cast your ballot!

Gothica

I added a lot of content to the Dracula’s Revenge site today. This includes some new wallpapers, a new cover shot, and a free PDF of the game’s rules. We’ll have a limited number of copies of the game at the Origins Game Expo next week. If you’re going to be there in Columbus, Ohio, be sure to stop by and pick yours up quick.

Dracula’s Revenge #2 should be in stores next Wednesday, June 23. My friends at IDW Publishing tell me they got reorders on the first issue and hope to sell out soon. Be sure to pick up both if you can. Again, we should have some copies at Origins, but they’ll be even rarer than the board game.
