I just got my hands on the press release of the shortlist for the Diana Jones Award for this year. Congratulations to all the creators who brought these wonderful games to life.
I just got my hands on the press release of the shortlist for the Diana Jones Award for this year. Congratulations to all the creators who brought these wonderful games to life.
Last Wednesday at Gen Con, I hosted the annual Diana Jones Award party, during which I was proud to announce that BoardGameGeek.com had won this year’s award. I’d tell you all about it, but fortunately Jeff Tidball recorded the whole thing. Watch the video for all the details.
Congratulations to Derk Solko, Scott Alden, and all the other people who make BoardGameGeek.com such a fantastic oasis on the Internet!
The Diana Jones Award ceremony is held the Wednesday night before Gen Con, or August 12 this year. It’s held in a bar, which offers a chance for gaming industry professionals to get together for a beer or three after setting up for the show and relax before the tsunami of gamers they hope to see crashing against their booths the next morning. In the middle of this, we take a short break for the Diana Jones Award committee to present this year’s award for excellence in gaming and then to celebrate this accolade.
If you qualify to attend this industry-only party and haven’t yet seen an invitation, e-mail me, and I’ll get you set up. I hope to see you there.
Glenn McDonald, whom I met briefly at Gen Con, writes for the Raleigh-Durham News & Observer. In the issue dated August 22, 2008, he has a kind article about the show, which includes a note about how local Jason Morningstar’s Grey Ranks won (or at least tied for) the Diana Jones Award. It features a short quote from me about how wonderful Jason’s game is.
The Diana Jones Award committee announced the winner of its annual award on August 13, the night before Gen Con. And it went to…
Grey Ranks by Jason Morningstar, published by Bully Pulpit Games!
And…
Open Design and Wolfgang Baur!
That’s right, it was a tie. The committee doesn’t particularly like ties, of course. No one does. But in this case we had a clear and solid split between two equally and well-deserving items. So the tie stands!
Congratulations to both Wolf and Jason! Their work truly is excellent.
The time and place of this year’s Diana Jones Award ceremony have been set. If you are an adventure gaming industry professional who will be attending Gen Con, you are cordially invited. If you do not have the details yet, drop me an e-mail, and I’ll send you a note with everything you need to know to attend. Thanks!
(Sorry, folks, but it’s not open to the general public.)
The title says it all. To sum up, here’s this year’s shortlist:
