In that last post about my Gen Con schedule, I buried a notation about this year’s Gen Con event from Reactor 88 Studios. According to the official listing:

Come see what Reactor 88 Studios is working on. We will be showing updates on the development of Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World, and we will also be be offering a first look at the film based on Jared A. Sorensen’s InSpectres, which is currently in production. We will talk about the processes of production as well as showcase some new film-making technology that is changing the way films are getting made.

This should be a lot of fun. I hope to see you there.

Brave New World

Makeshift Prodigy — the band that played a fantastic set at the Brave New World: Revolution teaser trailer debut at last year’s Gen Con — released its second album today: Mathematica. You can listen to the whole album for free online, or you can buy a CD for $5. If you’d rather download it, it’s available in a stunning variety of music-file formats (including MP3, of course), and you can pay whatever you like for it, down to a bare minimum of $4.99.

The album comes with a new version of “Revolution,” which was a big part of the Gen Con show. The band played a number of the other songs at the show which make their recorded debut on Mathematica too.

Anyhow, they’re a great band, and Mathematica is going to be my soundtrack while I polish off the latest draft of the screenplay for Brave New World: Revolution. Check ‘em out.

Amortals

Late last Thursday night/Friday morning, I finished the Vegas Knights death march and submitted the manuscript to my publisher, Angry Robot. The book is slated to appear in the UK this June, and in the US in July, so I cut it awfully short. I’m pretty happy with the book though. It combines many of my favorite topics: gambling, Las Vegas, magicians, and more. I’ll be sure to tell you much more about it soon.

Next up, I’m working on a new draft of the Brave New World screenplay for Reactor 88 Studios. While time is tight on that, I’m going to be ramping up the PR machine for Amortals and Vegas Knights soon, so expect to see me spending more time updating things around here and getting the place spiffed up.

Brave New World

During Gen Con or thereabouts, to help celebrate the debut of the Brave New World: Revolutions film proof of concept, AEG and DriveThruRPG released the entire catalog of books from my Brave New World Roleplaying Game as PDFs. Though the game has been long out of print, you can now download all nine books (everything but the GM’s screen) instantly, all at substantial discounts off their original printed price. The core rulebook, for instance, is only $18.

If you’ve ever been interested in the game or the background behind the film, here’s your chance to get it without having to scour eBay for printed books. It’s been 10 years since the game first saw print. It’s great to have it back in circulation again.

I’m prepping for Gen Con, which starts on Thursday, although I’ll be there on Wednesday for the Diana Jones Award party. I have a busy schedule lined up for myself, which includes my Industry Insider Guest of Honor panels, plus some events to promote the release of the Brave New World: Revolution proof-of-concept video.

The big event, of course, is the debut of that video, along with a concert by Makeshift Prodigy. This happens Friday at 4 PM in the Westin’s Grand Ballrooms 2 & 3. For a preview of this, be sure to check out the new trailer.

Also, Reactor 88 Studios and Makeshift Prodigy are throwing an afterparty to celebrate the release of the Brave New World: Revolution proof-of-concept. We’ll be at the Subterra Lounge (250 S. Meridian), blowing off steam and listening to the sounds of DJ Marcelo. This is a reservation-only event. Be sure to contact rsvp@r88s.com to join us.

In any case, if you’re going to be at Gen Con, do say hi. I love chatting with gamers and fans of all kinds, and I hope to see you there!

Brave New World

BNW Gen Con copy.jpgAt Gen Con, the big event for me is Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World: Experience the Revolution. At 4 PM on August 14, the Reactor 88 Studios folks show off the progress they’ve made with their finished proof-of-concept piece for a Brave New World feature film. This multimedia event also features a live concert by Makeshift Prodigy. (ENT0904588)

The event starts at 4 PM in the Grand Ballroom II & III in the Westin. It’s free, although I recommend you get a ticket beforehand to guarantee entry. Makeshift Prodigy is one of Chicago’s hottest new bands, and they rock. Hit their website and check out their music (under the “Media” tab), especially the track “Revolution,” which figures large in the show.

At 2 PM on August 15, we’ll return to the scene of the crime for Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World: Revolution Feature Film Q & A: A seminar with the Reactor 88 Studios folks. I’ll be there, along with many members of the cast and crew, to discuss the film and how it’s coming along. (FLM0904589)

Tell all your friends and spread the word far and wide! The guys at Reactor 88 and Makeshift Prodigy have put a ton of work into this event, and I’d love to have a huge crowd there to enjoy the show.

Brave New World

My pal Phil Lacefield is clearing out his closets, and he’s put up a four-book set of Brave New World roleplaying game titles up on eBay. At his kind request, I’ll be happy to autograph them for the lucky winner.

The set includes the core Brave New World rulebook, Ravaged Planet, Defiants, and Glory Days. That’s four of the best books of the whole series. If you’re at all looking to pick these up, be sure to check out the auction. If you win, I’ll deface the books with my pen in the fashion you request.
