On Memorial Day, my father checked into the ER and was told he’d be staying in a hospital for a while. Today, he’s been moved into the intensive care unit due to further complications from multiple conditions. If you have any good vibes, thoughts, prayers to spare, please send them his way.

  1. Definitely sending what I can. Ironically, my Dad went into the hospital last week and it’s not looking too good – they found some spots on his brain and lungs. I just hold onto the knowledge that they can do amazing things these days. We’ll add your Dad to our thoughts.

  7. Man.

It seems to be “going around.” My dad’s in for a AAA, at the same time that a friend of mine’s father is as well. These are the same things that killed Gary Gygax and, just yesterday, Harvey Korman. And I know THREE other good friends who have fathers in the hospital right now.

  11. Thanks, guys.

Bryan: I’m sorry to hear about your dad. My best wishes to him. My stepmother had brain cancer a few years ago, soon after the quads were born, and they managed to entire remove it with a new gamma-knife procedure. It works far better than the whole-brain radiation, which usually kills the patient, just not as fast as the cancer would. Nancy has been cancer free for a few years now.

Blaze: How’s your dad doing? Please give Joe my best.

Sean: Good luck to your dad too. It does seem like a rash of father-related illnesses happening these days. I suppose it shouldn’t be too surprising that we face these things as we start staring down middle age, but we all always hope for better times and more of them. Here’s to that!
