Orcs Cover Spotted

OrcsThe fine people at Del Rey have posted a cover for my upcoming hardcover, coffee-table book Orcs. It looks pretty sharp, and I’m told the shield on the cover will have an embossed texture and that a couple holes will appear where arrows have gone through it. Orcs should be on shelves by November 4, just in time for the year-end holidays.

    1. Originally it should have been out this fall, but it was pushed back. The last I heard it was due in 2009, but I don’t know much more than that. Wish I could be more helpful, but as soon as I know and can say more, I’ll be sure to post about it here again.

  2. Hello from Madison, Matt! So, when is this gem supposed to be out? Scott Oden is going to eat someone if he doesn’t see it soon!

      1. Well, I just heard about it today, and I’m already eager to see it. So, I hope you get that straightened out soon. Thanks for the reply!

      2. Since my name was invoked . . . sorry to hear the packager imploded, but I’m glad you’re shopping it around. I have an Orc novel coming out from Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press next year. They might be amenable to it. Drop me an email and I’ll pass along the editor’s name!

          1. Also have an anthology of Orc short stories I’m assembling, hopefully for the same publisher (but I have a back-up publisher, just in case). It’s by invitation only, and I love to pass along an invitation to you. So far, I have Janet and Chris Morris, Jim Hines, and a few other authors committed to it. And, it has a ridiculously long deadline (12 months)!

Count me in on that for sure. I sent off the first email already. If you don’t get it for whatever reason, I’m at [email protected]. Thanks!

          1. You know what they say about great minds, and all! There’s a librarian in New England, Sarah Lauderdale, who is assembling the most impressive bibliography of all things Orcish I’ve ever seen. Hopefully, it will find a publisher some day!
