I’ve just confirmed that once again I’ll be an Industry Insider Guest of Honor at this year’s Gen Con. At the moment, this is the only convention on my schedule for the year. Unfortunately, Wizard World Chicago is the exact same weekend as Origins this year, forcing a choice between the two. Also, I’m still up in the air about GTS, Comic-Con, and the Austin GDC—but I’m always open for invitations to other exotic locales.

Is there some kind of second-string “Guest of Vague Recognition” status one of us plebes can snag for the show?

First, you need to upgrade your opinion of yourself, Will. You’re top of the crop. Then you contact Jeannette at Gen Con and offer your time. Couldn’t be simpler.

Sadly, I won’t be at Gen Con this year. I haven’t been since the last Milwaukee conference, but with twins on the way heading to Indy is out of the question.
I am extraordinarily mournful of the loss of Gen Con SoCal. I know there are a number of reasons for the death of the con, Conquest events near the time, D&D experience two months later, Anaheim’s ridiculous cost for exhibitors. That doesn’t change the fact that I liked having an “official” Gen Con down here.

I enjoyed Gen Con So Cal too, and I was sad to see it go. It’s too bad that no other convention seems to have stepped into the niche it had begun to carve out.

I’ll see you at GenCon and maybe Wizard World (if you choose that one).
Maybe sooner if we take a trip down to Beloit.

I’m leaning toward Wizard World, if only because it’s close enough I can drive down for the day then come back home. With the kids around, that often beats spending an entire week at Origins, much as I love that show too.
Either way, you’re always welcome here in Beloit.

Congrats on your continued and well deserved VIP status. I’m making my travel plans this weekend…can’t wait for another great con in Indy.

Looking forward to seeing you there, Brett. As for being a VIP, it’s just another excuse to make sure I go to the show. This is 27 years in a row for me, and I can’t break that streak.
