Back when I worked for Human Head Studios, the company paid for all of the employees to be members of the International Game Developers Association. When I left in 2004, I let my membership lapse, but I recently rejoined again. I just updated my member profile, most of which I lifted generously from my own site, of course.

Good for you, Matt! For some reason, I resisted joining the IGDA for years. But then they lowered their annual dues and I felt obligated (or something) to support them. I’m happy to be a member now.

Very cool, Bruce. I’ve supported the organization for years, but when I left Human Head, I didn’t feel the need to pony up for dues right then. Earlier this year I decided I’d take a real run at doing some computer game contract work, and I joined the IGDA Writers SIG. No one ever asked me for a membership number, even when I volunteered to help edit the SIG’s newsletter. Once I decided to attend the chapter meeting in Madison last month, though, I knew it was time to make everything official, and I’m glad I did.

Would this be an organization I (as an indexer) could join? Would it be worth the time and money?

Hi Lori!
Unfortunately, the IGDA wouldn’t do you much good. It concentrates on computer and video games, which rarely have indices.

Thanks for the info.
