The Beloit International Film Festival

No joke. This year, my little hometown of Beloit, Wisconsin, hosts its first annual international film festival. It starts January 19th and runs through the 22nd. I’m looking forward to squeezing a few screenings in.

The most interesting should be The Real Dirt About Farmer John, a documentary about a local farmer who runs a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm called Angelic Organics. The farm is not even ten miles from my house as the crow flies. If you get a chance, come on out and join us.

  1. I saw both Kontroll and the reconstructed version of The Big Red at the Santa Barbara film festival last year, and both were excellent. I recommend seeing a few shorts, as festivals are about the only places you can see those anymore.

  3. I’m looking forward to the films, and the Opening Night Party. While you are attending the fest, don’t forget to check out “Wisconsin Born & Bred, The Entertainers” (my film). The documentary includes interviews with singer Al Jarreau, comedians Jackie Mason & Frank Caliendo, The Bachelor’s Tina Panas, MTV RealWorlder Julie Stoffer, directors Jim Abrahams & Mark Borchardt, and actor Daniel J. Travanti. Also represented are Chris Farley, Harry Houdini, The Ringling Brothers, Orson Welles, & Liberace. The narration by Robert Richard Jorge (American Movie, Coven) was shot on location in different rooms of Ten Chimneys (the former home of theater greats Alfred Lunt & Lynn Fontanne) in Gennessee Depot. Music by the BoDeans, Dave Fitzpatrick, & the UW Marching Band.

  5. Thanks, Jim! I don’t know that I’ll make the opening party, but seeing your film just jumped to the top of my list. Best of luck with it!

The music from the film will be playing, the artists artwork will be on display, and it is a casual mingling event for everyone.

    Hope to see you there.

    Thanks.

  9. Thanks for the note, Jim. I’ll be down at Adepticon that Saturday–and then struggling to catch up with my deadlines on Sunday–so I won’t be able to make it. I hope it’s a huge success for you!
