Yesterday, a FedEx box showed up at my house with the first production samples of my Marvel Heroes Battle Dice game from Playmates. Put short, the game looks fantastic. Don’t take my word for it though. Just look.

Here are the fronts of a booster pack and a starter set.

And here are the backs.
Playmates should have a website up for the game soon. Look for it in stores in January. Most adventure game distributors are carrying it, so check with your friendly local games store first. You should also be able to find it at Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, Toys-R-Us, Meijer’s, etc.
I’m thrilled to see that the production team at Playmates did such a great job. I can’t wait to see this in stores!

When, if it is possible, will a rules download be made available?

I’m told that a Battle Dice website will go live around the time the game is officially launched. A downloadable version of the rules should be available there. I’ll be sure to post here when that happens.

Any chance you could give us a little description of the game mechanics and game play?

Matt,
I must have been writing my most recent post when you stopped by my blog, but I wonder if you would mind commenting again. I was wondering what your thoughts might be with regards to “industry wide” ramifications. For example, what does this mean for Wiz Kids Heroclix franchise? Your thoughts regarding mainstream toy manufacturers hiring “specialty” game designers like you? etc.
Thanks,
Christian

I’m under a deadline crunch at the moment, guys. I should be able to post more about this on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks for being patient!

Are they still releasing the mysterious ‘Launcher’? I ordered a starter and launcher, just based on the concept of launching dice.

Yes. I’ve seen photos of dice chuckers for both the Hulk and the Thing. I’ll post a link later in the week. They’re incredible.

hey matt.. do the scales really bug you? me too..
i hope in series 2 they will make the heroes actual sizes. for instance..
in series one, spider-man is much bigger than apocalypse or any figures.. but daredevil is smaller..
i know that some figures must be smaller than the other but look at daredevil compared to spidey..
it really bugs me cuz spidey is bigger than any figures..
.. daredevil is smaller and he has a post.. sheesh!
i just hope in the next series, playmates will have a better scale at those figures..
thanks..

Hi Luigi!
The scale doesn’t bother me because I understand the compromise Playmates had to make to fit each figure inside a die. Let’s say the Hulk would be one of the larger figures. To make Spider-Man to scale, he’d have to be about a centimeter high. It gets even worse if you think about making a Sentinel or Galactus the largest figure.
I’m impressed with the variety of poses Playmates has managed to pull off. The flying Iron Man is pretty cool, as is the way Doc Ock rises up on his arms.
Still, it’s a matter of personal taste, and I do understand your objections. I don’t think the issue will change for Series 2, though, as there’s not a clear way around it.
