I regret to report that I won’t be able to make it to Origins this year. I have too many deadlines over my head to justify taking off the better part of a week or more to go to Columbus, Ohio, no matter how fantastic it would be. This is also why I’ve been quiet here lately. Too many things to do has left less time for blogging (and sleeping).

On the upside, once I finish with my current project, I should be caught up, as most of my other deadlines are a long ways off. Wish me luck, and if you happen to be in Columbus this weekend, tip a pint in my direction, please.

Tipping a pint in your direction? Is that like praying toward Mecca?

I don’t suppose you’ve convinced anyone to bring you down to San Diego for Comic-Con this year?

  2. 2. Matt Says:

It’s less of Mecca (the one in Milwaukee where they used to hold Gen Con, right? :) ) and more of sign of respect for those who can’t be there.

I’d love to come out for Comic-Con again, but not this year. I’ll be at Gen Con for sure, though, and at Games Day Chicago. I also plan to wander around Wizard World Chicago a bit.

You can see the pattern here: closer shows that don’t require as much of a commitment in time or resources. After doing so many shows last year, I lined up enough work to keep me busy through the end of this year, maybe beyond. Next year, I’ll probably pound the circuit hard again.

Consider a pint o’ plain tipped, my man. I’ll catch ya at GenCon then (since I know you’re not going to miss that). ;)

  4. 4. Matt Says:

Thanks, Jason. I regret I won’t be there to see people playing Frankenstein’s Children for the first time. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing what improvements you’ve made to it. Have a blast!

As for Gen Con, no, I won’t miss that. This will be my 24th in a row. ;)

“Improvements”? Oh Matt, do you not know me at all?

24 in a row?! You were a wee lad back in…1981? Wow. ;)

Hey, Jason, I expect you to make me look good with Frankenstein’s Children. Please!

As for Gen Con, I started going when I was just a kid. My dad used to drive me and my pals up to UW-Parkside for the show. He’d drop us off in the morning and pick us up at night, and leave us to our devices in between. Just one of the benefits of growing up within spitting distance of both Gen Con and TSR.

Oh, darn. And here I’ll actually get to go to Origins this year.

Well, your work ethic is strong, and that makes you Mighty.

  8. 8. Matt Says:

Sorry I’ll miss you there, Justin. I’m sure you’ll have a blast anyhow.

As for my work ethic, I’d rather I wasn’t behind in the first place. Only drastic measure seem plausible at this point, so an Origins-less summer it is.
