Comments, Please

One of the things about my WordPress setup is you don’t need to register to comment. Just click on the word “comments” beneath any entry and go. I’d like to hear more from you readers out there, just so I know I’m not typing for myself. This should make it a lot easier.

Hey Matt — pleased to see you’ve made the switch over to WordPress, which kicks ass in so many ways!

    Nice site revamp!

    Hi Adam and Steve:

Thanks for the comments! WordPress is much easier to work with than Movable Type. I’m finding new things I like about it all the time. It’s also much easier to install and maintain so far. BlueHost.com even had a one-click install, which sold me on both WordPress and them.

The site’s look is growing on me. I’ve thought of doing my own header graphic, but that’s on the “to do later” list.

Matt. This WordPress is looking mighty impressive to me. I am going to look into changing my site over to it now. Seems that they have easy ways to import data from other blogging packages. Mine is using blogger, and the main mucrew blog uses greymatter, which is just clunky compared to this.

Oh, and if you have a few minutes, I threw up a review of Marked For Death a while back on http://www.mucrew.com

I’m definitely looking forward to reading more, and will keep my eyes open for the Blood Bowl books as well. Cheers!

    Hi Jeff!

Yeah, I brought my stuff over from Movable Type without a problem. It broke all the old links to the posts but set up brand-new ones, so it wasn’t much of a problem.

How long has mucrew.com been up? It looks fantastic.

Thanks for the review. Ah, to be damned with such faint praise. ;) Actually, I thought it was a fair review, and I’m glad to hear you’re going to be sticking around as I work to become a better novelist. Marked for Death was the longest bit of fiction I’d ever written to that point. I think Blood Bowl and The Road to Death are both better books, so hopefully I’m learning as I go.

Matt. Glad that you aren’t too miffed at the 3.5 rabid monkeys out of 5 rating. :) I could have given it a 5, but I know you are only going to get better, so had to allow room for growth! I will tell you that the Shoppette at the RAF base I work at here in England got 5 copies (at least there were 5 when I got mine) and they were all gone within a week of arriving. I had been checking at least a couple of times a week for them to get in after the release date in March.

The mucrew website has been in existence since the beginning of 2002. I originally set it up on my computer at work so that me and the guys could use the GreyMatter blog to communicate instead of “reply to all” and have endless strings of emails. Now it’s our main way of communicating, especially with us all getting scattered about the planet. We added the reviews section in the middle of 2003. Ian and Matt have been working on spiffing it up most recently, but only sporadically. It’s a never ending work in progress.

I’ll have to head over to the Games Workshop in town and see if they have a copy of your Blood Bowl book. For now I am working out the kinks in getting my personal blog switched over to Wordpress…had to do it manually. No nifty one click button for me. :)

Crap, never mind. I see in the previous post that Blood Bowl doesn’t come out until August over here. For some reason I was thinking that it was already out.

Nice change over. I don’t get over here too often (since most of this is industry-related news).

WordPress 1.5 is great. Easy to use, easy to maintain, and since I’ve switched over, I’ve gone from getting hundreds of comment spams in a day to less than 5 in the last 3 months.

It’s also really easy to completely reconfigure. I’ve done 2 different designs (and 2 variations of one of those). If you’re looking to do a completely custom layout, let me know, I’d be more than happy to help.

    Hi Jeff:

Don’t sweat reviewing my stuff. I have a thick skin. I’m glad the book is selling well in your neck of the woods.

Sounds like you’re having a fine time in England. I loved my six months in Nottingham, although that was 15 years ago now. Living in another country is always an adventure.

    Hi Blaze!

I’m enjoying WordPress 1.5 too. Very cool stuff. I may take you up on that offer, but I’m pretty happy with the look at the moment. I might want to come up with a new header graphic, but all in good time. Hope you’re well!

Site’s looking great, Matt. Look forward to reading the new Blood Bowl novel.

Thanks, Bill! I can’t wait to read your Death’s Angels books myself.
