Conan Guru, Reporting for Duty

I just took on a gig as the content guru for Conan Properties, the people who own Robert E. Howard’s Conan. I’ll be working with authors, publishers, and other licensors as the arbiter of all things Conan, the original fantasy hero. This should be a blast, as I’ve been a Howard fan since I first stumbled upon his stuff in high school, and the company has lots of great products in the works. Wish me luck!

  1. Hi Paul:

I think you win the no-prize for first registered comment since I started using TypeKey to keep out the spammers. Thanks!

As for living the dream, now it’s just a matter of keeping far enough in front of the dream that it doesn’t run me down.

  2. Well, if I had been able to figure out how to navigate the TypeKey web of protection, I might have nailed that no-prize.

You know, Matt, I’d hate you if (a) you didn’t deserve it, (b) you weren’t so blasted nice, and (c) you hadn’t helped me achieve my own dreams.

  3. Congratulations, Matt! I’ve been on quite the Conan revival kick for the last year, what with the reprinted comics at Dark Horse and the new role-playing game. I’m glad to know the barbarian will be in such good hands.

  4. Congratulations! This is awesome news. I have been enjoying your RPG writing for years and to read this is just sweet.

To bad Mongoose has the RPG license. I wouldn’t have minded seeing a “Savage” edition of Conan.

  9. Mongoose is doing a fine job with the Conan RPG. It’s extremely faithful to the R.E. Howard stories. I just re-read a few of them, and found the place where Conan uses the Human Shield combat manouevre, and the place where a sorcerer employs the Loathesome Weapon feat.

  11. I agree. I’ve been sending them copies of the manuscripts for the new novels too, and they’re incorporating those into the RPG material.
